Cat’s Eyes, a newly-formed duo consisting of frontman Faris Badwan (frontman of the Horrors) and Rachel Zeffira (Canadian opera soprano and multi instrumentalist) recently had their debut performance last december at – get this – the Vatican. Through Zeffira’s classical music connections they were able to book the gig at St. Peter’s Basilica and use the church’s organ and choir. Apparently there were a handful of high-ranking cardinals in attendance, too. What? Awesome.

Anyway, imagine crossing a 60s girl group like the Ronettes and with the likes of Austra (I wonder if they know each other from Canadian Opera ties?) and Zola Jesus, and adding an orchestra.

Grab their album Broken Glass (Polydor) – its a great record start to finish, full of tracks that blend the “Spector Wall of Sound” with dark symphonic arrangements.
